Reasons medical professionals refinance.
- Access medico pricing. Many lenders offer professional discounts you may not have qualified for when you first borrowed.
- Avoid LMI above 80%. If you owe more than 80% of your property’s value, a lender with a medico LMI waiver can let you switch without paying a new premium.
- Release equity. Fund an investment property, renovation or practice buy-in from the equity you’ve built.
- Restructure. Add offset accounts, split fixed and variable portions, or separate loans so they’re easier to manage and review with your accountant.
- Consolidate debt. Roll car or personal loans into a lower rate, with a plan to pay them down.
Good times to review your loan.
A few moments tend to be worth a fresh look:
- Your fixed rate is ending
- You’ve moved from registrar to consultant
- Your property has grown in value
- You’re planning to invest
- You’re buying into a practice
- You haven’t compared rates in a while
How we handle it.
We review your current loan, compare it against 30+ lenders and show you the numbers, including any break costs, discharge fees and switching costs, so you can see whether refinancing actually leaves you ahead. If it does, we manage the application and settlement with both lenders for you.

Can I refinance to avoid LMI as a doctor?
If you owe more than 80% of your property’s value, some lenders will waive LMI on a refinance for eligible medical professionals. LMI you’ve already paid on your current loan generally isn’t refunded.
Are there costs to refinance?
There can be: discharge fees from your current lender, break costs if you’re on a fixed rate, and sometimes application or valuation fees. We include them in the comparison so you can see the real saving.
How long does refinancing take?
It depends on the lender and how quickly documents come together, often a few weeks from application to settlement. We keep both lenders moving so it doesn’t take your time.
